Digital print packaging — FAQs
Straight answers to the questions we get most. If you don’t see yours here, just reach out.
Why can’t I order less than 5,000 units?
Technically you can, but small runs are costly. Each stage (printing, laminating, pouch forming) has setup time and labour, so the unit price jumps on very low volumes. Our MOQ is 5,000 units — and you can split that across multiple same-size SKUs (e.g. 2,500 + 2,500).
Matt & gloss together — why not with digital?
Combination finishes require a spot matt varnish laid over selected areas, which is done on traditional plate/cylinder presses. Digital runs use either a matt film or a gloss film across the whole design. We’re exploring future options — stay tuned.
Why don’t you make Flat Bottom or Spout Pouches?
Those formats need specialised forming equipment and extra fitments. Our current machinery isn’t set up for spouts or flat-bottom bases.
Can I change my artwork after I’ve sent it?
Yes — up until your team signs the final artwork proof. Changes restart parts of our pre-press checks and can add time, so it’s best to supply the most accurate file you can at the outset.
What is CMYK and how does it work?
Digital print combines Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black (and White where needed) in tiny dots to form your image. With CMYK+White we can achieve rich designs suitable for pouches.
Can you print kraft paper pouches?
Yes — we offer printed kraft paper packaging through our custom-made service. Contact us to confirm if kraft is right for your product and barrier needs.
How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on volume, size, features (zip, valve, hang hole) and material structure. Because inputs vary across the year, we quote per job like most print manufacturers. The more detail you share, the faster and more accurate the quote.
Do you have an in-house designer?
We focus on production and don’t provide artwork creation, but we can recommend experienced packaging designers if you need one.
Why can’t you give an exact lead time at quoting?
Timelines depend on how quickly artwork is approved, press scheduling, lamination, pouch-forming, and QC. We’ll give a tighter ETA once final artwork is signed off and the job is booked.
Why is digital more expensive per unit than gravure/flexo?
Traditional presses run very fast at high MOQs, so unit pricing drops on big volumes despite plate/cylinder costs. Digital inks/materials are dearer per metre, and our pouches are 100% Australian made, so we don’t benefit from low offshore labour.
I ordered 5,000 but received ~4,950 — why?
A small manufacturing tolerance is normal due to setup, line testing, strict QC (e.g. early misaligned seals) and film yield variances. We aim to land as close to your ordered quantity as possible with minimal waste.
Why can’t you match Pantone exactly?
Plate/cylinder printing can load a specific spot ink to hit an exact Pantone. Digital builds colour from CMYK (+White), so it approximates spots. Extended gamut inks (Orange/Green/Violet) can improve matches — let us know before quoting if PMS accuracy is critical.
